I'm an owner of a Xbox 360 and a Nintendo DS Lite. I used to own a PS1, PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast and SNES. Times have definitley changed for many of these companies. Sony who was once the dominant console OEM in the 90s and early 2000's is now trying to hold on for dear life. The Vita has not sold as well as they had hoped, and the PS3 is still lagging in both console sales and online service offerings. Xbox 360 has showed its strength in online offerings with its widely successful and profitable Xbox Live offering.
As digital content expands, I still see Microsoft as the winner here. I think that they go into the hard drive storage and online market way ahead of Nintendo and Sony and have not looked back.
Sony seems to be grasping at straws now to get people to not only by their consoles, but to also get excited about their digital offerings online. Microsoft's expansion into offering TV, DLC exclusives, and ESPN have helped solidify its place as the top online console service.
Nintendo seems to not be concerned too much with this and just wants to be in the game. Sony has been beefing up their online offerings with some exclusive content and console specific titles, but it may be too little too late.
