I totally get it. When you are already making three other versions related to the Xbox, PC and PS3, adding another one is a problem. Besides, with the manpower that it takes to make a game, some studios don't have the time yet to crank out another version and learn a whole new architecture. This is the only issue that I see with the Wii U in regards to 3rd party developers. Companies that don't have the manpower to work on those versions of the game, will just leave it and focus on the ones where they can make some money. Over time, these developers will start to go after other platforms, but for the interim, they will just leave new systems.
