EA moving forward with Free to Play for Star Wars

EA is going to launch a free to play version of Old Republic with the next patch. This will actually allow people to try the game out for the first 15 levels before they are asked to subscribe and pay a monthly fee. The initial 15 levels will allow you to access all parts of the game that a normal, paying subscriber will be able to access. They started this out in the winter with "friend" accounts. So an already existing subscriber could invite a friend to the game to try out the first 15 levels before they had to sign up to play. That's how I ended up playing the game.

The comparison between the subscribers in WoW and SWTOR are just staggering.
