Consoles dead?

I like this article. It goes into a little bit of history regarding the current cycle of gaming and the last generation. Consoles are the life blood of gaming now. Mobile devices and tablets are just complements. No way will those device take over the majority of the gaming market. I do feel that as much as the companies want to have the latest and greatest, they may be smarter to device a console with upgraded graphics, ram, processing power (all that can be had for pretty cheap) and then sell them close to the price, if not cheaper, of the current consoles. Anything more than $400 is just not going to fly anymore.

I do see handhelds fading away in the next few years though. That market is where tablets and mobile devices can take over an win. $40 games vs. free to $9 games. No brainer.
